Everyone has their story and this one is dedicated to whomever rumbles with a difficult one. To whom has been forced to bend and live the dark night of the soul, to eventually heal with their own strength and dance with their own monsters, with courage and humbleness. Here at COCOU we like to think that you can wear your soul with pride and honesty, every day. When life demands resilience, being able to do that isa noble act, of great vulnerability. This is why we created a special capsule collection: we gave new life to 50 of our scarves and pashminas, by repairing them and making them shine again thanks to the ancient art of kintsugi. We’re not only doing it for ourselves: part of the proceeds from sales will be donated to La Nara women’s shelter and anti-violence center in Prato (Italy).
The noble art of golden scars
When a pot falls into pieces, the first temptation is to throw it away, maybe with anger, if not with a slight sense of sorrow. This is exactly what we do with our soul, when we undergo something wrong. The Japanese culture helped us to change perspective again thanks to the art of kintsugi. This ancient technique (from kin, “gold” and tsugi, “restore”) allows us to repair what was broken, by highlighting and embellishing the breaks with golden paint and urushi, a resin coming from the tree of lacquer, unknown here in the Western world. This was a spiritual lesson for us and pure inspiration to play and experiment on our delicate Air Cashmere.
Gold on Air Cashmere
Oil on canvas, we say for paintings. Gold on Air Cashmere is what we chose to do to embellish a very limited series of scarves and pashminas that needed new life force. We painted them with kintsugi art designer’s patterns. Each of them is different to make the spiritual message of every crystal and stone even more intense, and to inspire all of you: for special gifts to sensitive people, to whom loves Japan or simply to whom feels this art close to their heart because, for any reason, they need to find new value and take care of themselves.
With this capsule collection we want to create something precious for all the people who deserve it. When an inner wound is healed with courage it should acquire new value and it’s right to show it, as you would do with a little victory. We want to do good with our style, instead of just creating an exercise of style: this is why we decided to donate part of our sales proceedings to the women’s shelter and anti-violence center La Nara in Prato (Italy), that fights to protect and support the victims of gender violence since 1997. A symbolic gesture, because we want to make sure that this art could truly help people embrace their new soul, especially those who are trying every day, with humbleness.
Our shop is transforming like a butterfly and it will very soon be ready for you. In the meantime, we will keep in touch and share our updates, shall we?
